Second mission to the Shattered Moon

In 9 BBY, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis returned to the Shattered Moon for a mission to find Bedlam Raiders leader Rayvis. While on a rescue mission, Kestis had overheard fallen High Republic Era Jedi Dagan Gera tell Rayvis to go to the High Republic on the Shattered Moon to retrieve an Abyss compass there, Gera hoping to use the device to reach the planet Tanalorr hidden in the Koboh Abyss. Kestis wished to stop Rayvis and Gera from reaching Tanalorr and potentially secure the hidden planet to hide Force-sensitives and others such as the Hidden Path from the Galactic Empire. When Kestis arrived on the moon, Kestis spotted Rayvis's ship going to the tower of the facility and decided to go after him.

Kestis navigated the array on the moon to reach the tower, fighting many Bedlam Raiders and battle droids and being taunted by Ravis via the array's speakers along the way. In the facility's laboratory, Kestis had a Force vision where he witnessed Gera getting his arm severed by his friend Jedi Master Santari Khri, who believed Gera had taken a dark path. Khri called for a droid to prepare a bacta tank for Gera before the vision ended. Kestis then retrieved High Republic technology to upgrade his ascension cable, allowing him to navigate the laboratory easier. Kestis then confronted Rayvis in the control tower at the top of the facility's laboratory. After Rayvis refused to give up the location of the compass, Kestis dueled him, Rayvis eventually growing tired and yielding. Kestis tried to recruit the Gen'Dai to his cause but Rayvis, tired of service, demanded Kestis to give him a warrior's death that the Jedi of old refused to give him, and Kestis obliged.

Having learned from Rayvis that the Abyss compass was truly in Khri's Koboh Observatory, which Rayvis had activated and unlocked for Gera by activating the Shattered Moon's array, Kestis began to return to the landing pad and his starship, the Stinger Mantis. Along the way, Kestis began to worry that he was becoming like Gera, abandoning the Jedi Code in his pursuit of Tanalorr. He expressed these concerns to his friend the Nightsister Merrin on the way back to Koboh, who assured him that she and his other friends would make sure he did not lose himself.
