Later, the outpost was attacked by the local raiders. Both Hexx and Veetch were killed in the attack and left Mayday as the only living member of the squad. When Nolan commanded Mayday and Crosshair to pursue the raiders, Mayday was critically wounded in an avalanche that resulted from their assault on the raiders' hideout. After a long journey back to the base, Mayday succumbed to his injuries due to Nolan refusing him medical attention.
Originally, the squad was comprised of multiple clone stormtroopers who were all equipped with standard-issue Phase II clone trooper armor and DC-15A blaster carbines. After over a year of being stationed on Barton IV, the squad was down to three members, Mayday, Hexx, and Veetch, and were forced to keep their disheveled armor held together with numerous cloth wrappings.
Mayday's squad had been assigned to garrison an Imperial depot on the frigid planet of Barton IV. Over the course of a year, the squad sustained heavy casualties while defending the depot from local insurgents. Sometime in 18 BBY, Commander Mayday sent out a distress signal to the Empire, which was eventually acknowledged and answered after thirty-six rotations. Under the command of Lieutenant Nolan, clone commando Crosshair and a small unit of clone stormtroopers were dispatched to Barton IV to bolster Mayday's squad.
The small unit arrived on Barton IV amidst a blizzard and were received by Commander Mayday and the remnants of his squad. As Mayday and Crosshair surveyed the depot's perimeter, the local insurgents attacked once again. In the attack, Hexx and Veetch, were killed while defending the depot, and the insurgents had managed to steal a portion of the supplies being stored at the depot. Furious, Lieutenant Nolan chastised Crosshair and Mayday for failing to defend the cargo, and ordered the two clones to set out and retrieve it.
Following the blood trail left behind from one of the insurgents, Crosshair and Mayday traversed a nearby cave system. After having to disarm a pressure mine, the two found the insurgent camp and ambushed the fighters as they were crowded around the camp's fire. After an intense firefight, the insurgents were defeated, but the Imperial cargo, which was revealed to be equipment for future TK stormtroopers, was lost in an ensuing avalanche.
Though Crosshair and Mayday managed to survive the avalanche, Mayday was mortally wounded. Crosshair refused to leave the trooper behind, and the two set out for the Imperial depot. As night fell, the two sheltered behind a rock and waited for the blizzard to die down. By morning, the two had reached the depot, though Mayday's condition had worsened throughout the night. Despite Crosshair's pleas, Lieutenant Nolan refused to give Mayday medical attention as he died, and reminded Crosshair that, as clones, he and Mayday were expendable. As Nolan turned to walk away, Crosshair called out to him before subsequently shooting and killing him before falling unconscious as a group of TK stormtroopers ran over to disarm him.
At least six months later, Crosshair would return to Barton IV after escaping from Imperial imprisonment at Mount Tantiss on the planet Wayland and reuniting with his old squad, Clone Force 99. As his squad members searched the now-abandoned and partially buried depot for information regarding Tantiss, Crosshair came across Mayday's helmet, which had been discarded in a corner along with the helmets of his men. Crosshair picked up Mayday's helmet and stared at it wordlessly before placing it on a supply crate, along with the other clone helmets, in an effort to recreate the small memorial that Mayday had previously set up for his deceased men.
