Sith rebellion

The Sith rebellion was a failed rebellion by a sect of former Jedi that were known as the Sith, led by the dark lord with the Sith witch alongside him. Jedi knights were expected to die honorably in the service of their lords, maintaining the traditions of the Empire and what was seen as the natural order in the clan system. Before the rebellion, the dark lord had been a Jedi knight pledged to a particular alongside many Jedi guardians, including the witch, who had been adopted into the clan alongside him. In an incident on a battlefield, the dark lord survived while the lord he served did not. Differing accounts of the event include: he had left his lord to die when he was the only one standing between his lord and death, he chose to protect his guardians instead of saving his lord, or he had not killed someone his lord had told him to kill.

Afterwards, the dark lord had forsworn the Jedi clans and led his guardians into rebellion against the Empire and the Jedi that served it. Former rival lords united in new alliances to oppose the Sith. The rebellion collapsed after the great muster on Rei'izu when the very same Dark Lord of the Sith who had begun the rebellion turned against his followers. Afterward, he was known only as the Ronin. The Empire became more centralized as it had been in the past, with the Jedi being their most loyal servants, and many of the knights were elevated to the rank of Jedi lord to rule the Jedi clans.

Two decades after the Sith rebellion, the Ronin wandered the Outer Rim Territories with his loyal astromech droid companion, B5-56. During that time, the Ronin came to the planet Genbara and stayed at a village. A Sullustan teahouse shopkeep of that village told Ronin that a group of bandits led by a female Sith warrior named Kouru were the last remnants of "the old war."

Behind the scenes

The Sith rebellion was created as part of the backstory for the Star Wars: Visions short film "The Duel" and its tie-in novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, written by Emma Mieko Candon, which were released in 2021 and set in an alternate history outside of the Star Wars canon continuity.

Within both the current canon and the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Sith split off from the Jedi during a period known as the Hundred-Year Darkness, which led to a series of conflicts between the Jedi and Sith.
