Overbridge (Death Star II)

The Overbridge, also known as the command station, was the bridge and main command center of the Galactic Empire's second Death Star. Like its predecessor on the first Death Star, the Overbridge contained the controls necessary to remotely fire the superlaser, as well as operate the battle station's deflector shield.

Description

The Overbridge was located along the equatorial trench of the second Death Star, just off of a small hangar. Manned by Death Star Troopers, it featured a row of computer terminals and a "Tulip" style Imperial work station that was used as the final command in the superlaser firing sequence: after the Imperial weapons technicians had prepared the superlaser for firing, a beeping would erupt in the room to signal that the laser was primed. As soon as the weapon was ready and they were ordered to do so by the Overbridge's overseeing officer, the trooper attending the work station would press the final control needed to make the shot. The room also contained a turbolift, a door to a surrounding hallway, and a viewport that looked into the hangar below. Additionally, a small targeting screen was located on the wall behind the duty post, above two mounted A280 blaster rifles.

In 4 ABY, Lieutenant Endicott, along with several Death Star Troopers were stationed in the Overbridge. The pilot of Darth Vader's shuttle contacted the Overbridge and asked them to lower the Death Star's deflector shield so they could dock in one of the hangars. Upon receiving the shuttle's code transmission, Death Star Trooper Jad Bean deactivated the deflector shield and told the shuttle that they could safely proceed. Shortly after, Endicott asked Bean to inform the station's commander, Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod that Vader's shuttle arrived.

Not long after, Jerjerrod, Endicott, and several personnel were present in the Overbridge during the Battle of Endor. Upon receiving orders from Emperor Palpatine himself, Jerjerrod authorized Imperial gunners to begin targeting Rebel ships, while Bean fired the superlaser at will. The superlaser began firing, destroying the Liberty and the Nautilian. The Imperials were forced stop shooting when, in response to the superlaser, the Rebel fleet engaged the Imperial fleet at point blank range in order to limit the Death Star's ability to destroy any Rebel ships without hurting their own. At some point later on, they contacted the Endor shield generator bunker, who told them that the garrison stationed on the moon had fought with the Rebels attempting to destroy the shield generator and had pushed them back into the forest, though unbeknownst to them, the Imperials in the bunker were being tricked by the Rebels in order to get them to open the blast doors. The Overbridge also tried to contact the throne room, but received no response. Both of these pieces of information were given to the Vigilance.

Eventually, the Rebels attacked the Death Star's main reactor, causing it to explode and destroy the entire space station, including the Overbridge. Jerjerrod and Endicott were killed, though Bean had previously fled his post and survived.
