Oseon system

The Oseon system was a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Centrality region. It was situated on the Sanity Skip hyperspace route and contained the Oseon Belt as well as a subtropical moon therein. The pirate queen Maz Kanata noted the system as a location of interest on a map she included in the book Smuggler's Guide, and at one point by 10 BBY, the gambler Lando Calrissian won the ownership of the Oseon Belt moon in a card game.

Description

The Oseon system was situated in the Centrality, a part of the regions known as the Outer Rim Territories and the Slice. Located in grid square T-8 of the Standard Galactic Grid, it lay on a hyperspace route that connected it to the celestial bodies Junkfort Station and Marleyvane. Another route, known as the Sanity Skip, also linked the Oseon to the Kessel system. The Oseon system contained the location known as the Oseon Belt, which in turn was the site of a subtropical moon. The system also shared its name with the deadly radiation wave known as the Flamewind of Oseon as well as the Oseon leatherette clothing material.

History

At one point, the pirate queen Maz Kanata marked the Oseon system as a location of interest—as well as denoting the Sanity Skip on which it lay as one of the "real" trade routes to be used by smugglers, as opposed to the official routes—on a galactic map that she included in the book known as the Smuggler's Guide. When the gambler Lando Calrissian later acquired the book at some point by 10 BBY, he noted the Oseon in a list of casinos that at the time had not yet banned him from playing games there. At another point by that same year, Calrissian won the ownership of the Oseon Belt's subtropical moon in a card game.

In the current Star Wars canon, "Oseon" was introduced as a location on a galactic map in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game, a 2016 Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set. The star system was first identified by name by "Lando Calrissian and Other Characters From the Galaxy," a booklet of the Star Wars Encyclopedia series published by De Agostini on July 22, 2022.

The star system originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu, the June 12, 1983 first entry in The Lando Calrissian Adventures trilogy of novels by L. Neil Smith. On the original cover of Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon, the trilogy's September 12, 1983 second entry, an illustration by William Schmidt provided the first visual depiction of the system's asteroid Oseon 6845.
