Flat-blast artillery shell

Flat-blast artillery shells were a type of explosive weapon capable of inflicting massive damage on population centers, food sources, and bodies of water. The shells made a distinctive sound upon exploding, and were used extensively in a civil war on the planet "Sunrise" that decimated its population.

Description

Flat-blast artillery shells were an explosive weapon that heavily damaged settlements, food, and water sources. Their explosions made a distinctive sound that resembled that of the zipper on some jackets owned by Chiss. The sound similarity was detected by some Agbui who'd witnessed the shells used in war, as well as a waveform comparison.

History

Haplif, an Agbui agent of Grysk Hegemony operative "Jixtus," instigated a civil war on the planet "Sunrise" and pushed flat-blast artillery shells on both sides. Within six months of arriving, Haplif successfully engineered Sunrise's civil war and caused destruction of most or all of its native population, with much of its devastation from the shells.

Agbui mid-ager Frosif was present for the Sunrise civil war and became traumatized by the sound of the shells' explosions. As a result, Chiss mid-ager Lakris's "magic trick" involving her jacket's zipper triggered trauma in Frosif. Senior Aide Xodlak'ji'iprip analyzed the zipper sound, finding a resemblance with flat-blast artillery shell explosions. This led Lakjiip and Lakris's father Xodlak'phr'ooa to suspect the Agbui they hosted on Celwis were refugees rather than peaceful "cultural nomads" as they claimed.

Flat-blast artillery shells were mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good by Timothy Zahn.
