Coduyo'po'nekri

Coduyo'po'nekri, also known by the core name of Yoponek, was a Chiss male of the Coduyo family and the betrothed of Yomie. Yoponek was a student of history.

He and Yomie embarked on a wandering year prior to their final education, choosing to travel the Chiss Ascendancy. When Haplif of the Agbui attempted to study the Chiss in order to spark a civil war within the Ascendancy, he encountered Yomie and Yoponek, offering them passage aboard his starship; he claimed it would save the two Chiss funds and provide guidance for the Agbui, but in reality wished to learn about the Ascendancy.

Biography

At some point, Yoponek would become betrothed to Yomie, and, during their wandering year, they would encounter the Agbui, Haplif, at a Chiss festival. Yoponek and Yomie wanted to explore the Ascendancy, and since they were running low on finances, Haplif would propose that they would serve as cultural guides to the Agbui in exchange for free travel aboard the Agbui ship, which is also traveling across the Ascendancy. In actuality, the Agbui were secretly trying to foment a civil war in the Chiss Ascendancy and wanted to use Yoponek's ambition to get into the higher echelons of Chiss society. After Haplif gave Yomie a nyix brooch, the Chiss couple would accept the proposal.

Five weeks later, Yoponek would make Haplif aware of an ambitious Xodlak Councilor on Celwis, Xodlak'uvi'vil (Lakuviv). Haplif, seeing this character as a way to infiltrate the Great Families of the Chiss, encouraged Yoponek to meet with Lakuviv, stating that he would be meeting an important Chiss historical figure before his rise to fame. Yoponek, although intrigued by the idea, was concerned about Yomie's needs. Haplif wanted to go to Celwis immediately, but this visit would interrupt Yomie's plans to visit Shihon for the month-long Grand Migration. Yoponek tried to get Yomie to see reason, stating that it was unreasonable to expect the Agbui to stay on Shihon for an entire month, but his betrothed would not budge.

The Agbui went to Shihon, but, over the course of three days, Shimkif would work to disrupt and bring an early end to the migration. On the fourth day, Yomie and Yoponek would return to the ship only two hours after departing from it. Yomie was very frustrated at the turn of events, but Yoponek was, while concerned for her, a little relieved. Haplif mentioned going to Celwis, to which Yoponek expressed his interest. However, Yomie would find out about other migrations on Shihon that she wanted to go see. Yoponek would try to get her to see reason, again noting that it was unreasonable to make the Agbui wait on Shihon for such a long period of time. Eventually, Yomie and Haplif would agree to stay on Shihon for a couple of days before going to Celwis. Four days into the Panopyl Mountains migration, Yomie would start to feel ill, and on the way back to the Agbui ship, she would become unable to walk. When the Chiss couple returned to the ship, Yoponek would inform Haplif of the situation. Chiss medics then arrived and concluded that she had been poisoned by the venom of a greenstripe. In actuality, this was the doing of Shimkif. A day later, Yoponek would go alone to the migration viewing grounds. While he was gone, Yomie would find out that the Agbui's touches were, in fact, their way of expressing their telepathic abilities. When Yomie threatened to tell Yoponek about the Agbui manipulation, Haplif had no choice but to kill her. When Yoponek returned to the Agbui ship, Haplif told him that Yomie decided to temporarily part ways while he and the Agbui went to Celwis to speak to Lakuviv. After some convincing, Yoponek would believe this lie and became eager to go to Celwis. Haplif further cemented Yoponek's resolve by giving him Yomie's brooch, stating that it was her promise they would be reunited again. On the way to Celwis, Yomie's body would be dumped into interstellar space.

Upon arriving at Celwis, Yoponek and Haplif would meet with Lakuviv at Redhill Hall. In this meeting, Yoponek and Haplif would ask Lakuviv if the Xodlak family could provide a small tract of land where the Agbui would farm their spices. Haplif would also give Lakuviv his own pair of nyix brooches, secretly hoping that the Xodlak family would take note of the metal and inquire of its planet of origin. Lakuviv and his Senior Aide, Xodlak'ji'iprip (Lakjiip), would find and temporarily give the Agbui a plot of land owned by Xodlak yubal rancher, Xodlak'phr'ooa (Lakphro). Over the course of the next couple of weeks, Yoponek would spend his time talking and networking with as many Xodlak family representatives as he could. Soon thereafter, Yoponek would be brought to a meeting between Lakuviv, Lakjiip, and Haplif. Over the past couple of weeks, Lakuviv and Lakjiip were manipulated into believing in the existence of an unclaimed nyix mine on the planet of Hoxim. Haplif would further manipulate Lakuviv into sending a Xodlak defense force to claim the planet. During this meeting, Lakuviv mentioned that Xodlak reservists would probably be the ones called upon to staff these Xodlak defense ships. Yoponek, recognizing this as inefficient, suggested the use of the Chiss family emergency protocols, explaining that Chiss families reserve the right to call upon any active-duty Defense Force or Expansionary Defense Fleet officers to staff family ships during an emergency. Lakuviv would thank Yoponek for this suggestion.

Later, Shimkif sent Yoponek on an errand before abandoning the Chiss Ascendancy. He was later questioned by Celwis Xodlak Patriel Xodlak'oo'nifis (Lakooni) concerning his involvement with the Agbui.

Personality and traits

Yoponek was ambitious in his career goals as a politician, seeking to network with mid- and high-ranking officials of other Chiss families. Haplif exploited this trait to maneuver into meeting Councilor Lakuviv on Celwis.
