Xaran Raal was a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order. As an initiate, Raal was trained in meditation by Jedi Master Depa Billaba. Once Raal was knighted, Billaba sent him to investigate pirate activity in the Slice, particularly the Riftwalkers gang. Raal was killed during his mission by Zilastra, the leader of the Riftwalkers. After Raal's death, Billaba chose to investigate the Riftwalkers herself in order to understand the environment that produced his killer, whom she later learned to be Zilastra.
