Vifra

Vifra was a human who served as an engineer in the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry, nicknamed Twilight Company. She became the head of engineering for the company following the destruction of the former head M2-M5 when the company's CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike, crashed on the planet Sullust.

As Twilight Company fortified at the captured Inyusu Tor mineral processing facility, Vifra's team was advised by the tentative Captain Hazram Namir to dig tunnels to channel lava through from the facilitys magma extractors. Vifra predicted that many of the dig teams would die, but assured Namir that they would carry the job out regardless and that the plan would ultimately work. When an Imperial attack on the Inyusu Tor facility came, the dug out tunnels channeled lava which cut off the Imperial forces from falling back.

Around 5 ABY, after the Alliance transitioned into the New Republic, Twilight Company, Vifra among it, fought in a campaign in the Cerberon system. After the company's squads were forced from their positions by the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, also known as Shadow Wing, Vifra rendezvoused with numerous other survivors at a speeder garage and represented the surviving engineers at a meeting with senior personnel.

During the meeting, Vifra coined the idea of contacting other New Republic infantry units as well as the possibility of disbanding the troops and spreading out until circumstances alter. When the New Republic pilot Nath Tensent suggested making a squadron out of locally found aircraft, Vifra added that she could weld already possessed weaponry to the airborne vehicles, although she claimed that the TIEs of Shadow Wing would still be superior to the modified vehicles.

Battle preparations

Between 2 ABY and 3 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, the human Vifra joined the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry, better known as Twilight Company, at the terrestrial body Phorsa Gedd, serving as a engineer in the company. Six months later, in 3 ABY, Twilight Company was stranded on the manufacturing world Sullust, with the company's CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike, having been shot down and the corvette's escort, the Braha'tok-class gunship Apailana's Promise, having fled the planet. M2-M5, a droid that served as Twilight Company's head of engineering, had been destroyed from the Thunderstrikes crash, allowing Vifra to take the droid's place.

As Twilight Company fortified at the Inyusu Tor mineral processing facility, which the company had captured prior to the Thunderstrikes demise, Vifra and the other engineers worked to prepare the magma extractors to channel magma flow against invaders. When she told Hazram Namir, the tentative captain of Twilight Company, what she had in mind regarding the magma extractors, the captain asked her if she had been present for the company's fighting on the terrestrial body Cartao. Vifra told Namir that she had only joined six months prior, and he promised that he'd tell her about Cartao if she helped keep the company alive.

The lava trap

Namir had a dozen dig teams burrow holes for magma to flow through from the facility at the Inyusu Tor mountain using machines that Twilight Company had gained access to from the facility. Vifra discussed the plan with Namir, assuring that it would work as the machines were built for the job. When the tentative captain guessed that she did not want to do it, the head engineer reminded him that he had told her team to be ambitious, but added that some of the dig teams would die whilst tunneling. Namir thus asked if the dig teams would do the job, for which Vifra nodded.

The local Imperial forces attacked the Inyusu Tor facility over a day later. As the battle progressed Namir ordered for the magma flow to be released into the tunnels, which caused lava to cut off any position the Imperial forces had to fall back to. The magma additionally traveled through excavations made by the Sullustan resistance, a rebel cell operating in Sullust's capital city Pinyumb, to submerge Imperial guard stations around the capital city and prompt a local revolution. Twilight Company ultimately won the battle departing Sullust some time after.

Desperate plans

Following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Alliance transitioned into the New Republic, with Twilight Company, Vifra included, continuing as a unit under the faction. In 5 ABY, Twilight Company fought in a campaign in the Cerberon system as a part of a larger battle group. Later into the campaign, the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, nicknamed Shadow Wing, traveled to the star system and decimated the battle group's fleet before forcing Twilight Company squads on the planet Troithe from their positions.

Vifra, having been covered in ash during the fighting on Troithe, rendezvoused at a three story speeder garage in the Highgarden District, where a number of other Twilight Company soldiers had also fled. Sergeant Carver called a meeting with the other senior members in the resulting group of New Republic personnel, where Vifra represented the surviving engineers among the group. With Captain Namir and half of Twilight Company off-world and unable to reach the rest of the company, Carver assumed command of the company's troops on Troithe, despite brief protests from the rest of the meeting attendees. After Carver inquired on how equipped their group was, Vifra discussed the prospect of contacting other infantry units on Troithe.

Devised squadron

As the meetings subject turned to their group's plan of action, Nath Tensent, a pilot in the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron, insisted that keeping Shadow Wing's TIE fighters on the ground was the best option. Vifra muttered that an ion pulse could help, but Carver argued that they did not have access to such resources to do make that happen. Tensent's squadronmate Wyl Lark coined the idea of fleeing from the fighter wing instead, and Vifra suggested disbanding the Twilight soldiers an spreading out as if they were rebels again and holding positions until circumstances change. Carver countered her, suggesting the change could be Imperial reinforcements.

With dealing with Shadow Wing still in debate, Tensent suggested gaining making a squadron out of airborne vehicles on Troithe with those who had flight or driving experience. Vifra, speaking simultaneously with the Sullustan Lien Toob, chimed in that she could weld portable cannons and heavy rifles onto them, but added that the TIEs would still be superior to these armed aircraft. With the idea of a make-shift squadron being agreed upon, Tensent helped secure the aircraft, which the engineers of the New Republic group refurbished. Meanwhile, the New Republic group traveled to the Scar of Troithe, a mined out continent on the planet. From there, the Twilight Company soldiers and the new squadron attacked Shadow Wing at the Core Nine mining megafacility, where they were victorious with the help of New Republic reinforcements.

Personality and traits

When planning to dig tunnels through the Inyusu Tor mountain, Vifra was worried for the lives of the dig teams but was confident to Hazram Namir that the plan to channel lava through the tunnels would work. During a meeting with other surviving senior New Republic personnel on Troithe, Vifra muttered the idea of disabling the TIE fighters of Shadow Wing with an ion pulse, despite having no resources to do so. When suggesting disbanding the group of surviving personnel, Vifra looked upon her comrades for agreement. She also screwed her face when claiming that she could weld weapons onto aircraft.

Equipment

Vifra's engineers used excavation tools to dig tunnels for lava to flow through during the Siege of Inyusu Tor. At Troithe, she pledged to use welding equipment to modify airspeeders.

Behind the scenes

Vifra first appeared in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, written by Alexander Freed.
