Unidentified individual (Qui-Gon Jinn)

In 60 BBY, Jedi Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn fell in love with an individual on the Outer Rim planet Felucia. He eventually broke off their romantic relationship to remain in the Jedi Order but nevertheless kept their gift to him—a Mustafar fire diamond—as a cherished memento for many years. In 40 BBY, when Jinn expressed disapproval of the Jedi regent Rael Averross's casual relations with the hostess Selbie, the latter brought up the former's past relationship on Felucia having broken the spirit of the Jedi Code. Not long after, Jinn gave his former paramour's diamond to the jewel thieves Pax Maripher and Rahara Wick after contemplating the moment it had been given to him twenty years prior.

An individual lived during the Republic Era and met the Jedi Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn on the Outer Rim planet Felucia in 60 BBY. While on the world, they and Jinn developed feelings for each other, eventually engaging in a romantic relationship. Jinn fell in love with the individual despite the Jedi Code forbidding him to fall in love with another. Though his commitment to the Jedi Order was deeply tested, he eventually broke off his attachment to them, choosing to remain loyal to the Jedi instead.

Before the Padawan left Felucia, they gave him a rare and expensive Mustafar fire diamond from the Outer Rim planet Mustafar as a memento, which he kept in a pouch on his utility belt to remind him of the memories they shared. At some point, Jedi Knight Rael Averross—a former student of Jinn's own Jedi Master, Dooku—learned about the romantic relationship the Padawan had begun on Felucia. For the next twenty years, Jinn continued to carry the diamond his former paramour had given him, considering it precious.

In 40 BBY, while on a mission to the Inner Rim planet Pijal, Jinn—now a Jedi Master—confronted Averross, who was serving as the world's lord regent, for sleeping with the local hostess Selbie. Averross countered that the other man's romantic relationship on Felucia had been a worse offense to the Jedi Code's spirit than his night of casually sleeping around, which reminded the Jedi Master of the individual. However, after the former saw that bringing up the incident pained Jinn, he switched conversation topics. Later, while still on Pijal, Jinn opted to give his Mustafar fire diamond to jewel thieves Pax Maripher and Rahara Wick as thanks for their assistance in helping locate the Opposition performance troupe during their mission. When Maripher questioned his choice, the Jedi Master briefly considered when it had been given to him by his former paramour twenty years prior, including its emotional significance to him. However, he felt he did not need the diamond to maintain memories of the individual within his heart, bequeathing it to the thieves and wishing them well.

Personality and traits

Jinn fell in love with the individual on Felucia and valued the memories of their relationship for many years after he had departed the world. Though the experience was a trial for him, he chose to leave them to remain with the Jedi Order. However, he kept the memento that they gave him on Felucia and kept it close as a small form of attachment.

Behind the scenes

The individual was first mentioned in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel written by Claudia Gray. Gray's inclusion of Jinn's former romance was meant to further elaborate on the complexities of his character and felt the novel's final scene in which he gives away a memento from the relationship as his way of letting go of the past. The author compared Jinn's Felucia romance to Averross's casual fling with Selbie while discussing the Jedi Code in an interview, noting that Averross and Selbie only shared a physical connection while the other Master had fallen in love. However, she chose to leave the exact details of the individual and Jinn's relationship on Felucia ambiguous to the reader.
