Umaren'k'sa

The Umaren'k'sa were a sentient species from the planet Umaren'k in the Unknown Regions. After another species, the Hemes Arbora, migrated to their world, the Umaren'k'sa adopted much of their visitors' culture, a societal shift that was prompted by the appearance of the sentient planet Zonama Sekot in the Umaren'k system.

Biology and appearance

The Umaren'k'sa were a species of sentient beings.

Society and culture

The species hailed from the planet Umaren'k in the Unknown Regions. The Umaren'k'sa adopted many elements of culture from another sentient species, the Hemes Arbora.

History

At some point in the Umaren'k'sa's history, the Hemes Arbora—a species from another world—immigrated to Umaren'k. Shortly thereafter, the sentient planet Zonama Sekot moved into the Umaren'k system, and the strange appearance caused the Umaren'k'sa to adopt many aspects of Hemes Arbora culture. The Hemes Arbora eventually moved on to the planet Osseriton. Another Unknown Regions species, the Chiss, knew of the Umaren'k'sa and had records of them in their Expeditionary Library on the planet Csilla.

In 28 ABY, the Barabel Jedi Knight Saba Sebatyne discovered references to Umaren'k'sa history while looking for information on Zonama Sekot in the Expeditionary Library. She surmised that Umaren'k'sa culture had been influenced by the Hemes Arbora after the planet's arrival in their system.

Behind the scenes

The Umaren'k'sa are mentioned briefly in the novel The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic II: Refugee, written by Sean Williams and Shane Dix and published by Del Rey in 2003. In the novel, the Jedi Knight Saba Sebatyne theorizes about Umaren'k'sa culture; however, the book does not definitively state that the Umaren'k'sa are a unique species. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published in 2008, includes an entry on the Umaren'k'sa that explicitly labels them a species and confirms Saba Sebatyne's suppositions about them.
