Biography

Thom Hudd once heard a story he called the "the Curse of the Nameless," which shared its name with entities mentioned in tales the Jedi Order had known of. During the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire, Hudd joined the Rebel Alliance as a lieutenant under Commander Lina Graf aboard the Auric. During a mission, the Auric was forced to crash-land on Mustafar. There, Hudd saw a castle that was something out of a nightmare. After the Auric crashed, Hudd, Graf and the rest of the crew were able to escape it before the lava finished the ship.

Hudd was against the idea going inside the castle due to the presence of lava troopers there. He then came under attack by several larva creatures. Hudd and the crew met the larva's parent, a Kubaza beetle. After XM-G3 killed the beetle, Hudd told the crew about what happened on Bray during the Clone Wars. The crew was then confronted by the lava troopers.

As Graf and G3, and held off the lava troopers, Hudd, CR-8R, and Skritt ran towards the castle's entrance. There, Hudd picked the lock. Once inside, Hudd found a statue and attempted to steal it. He was confronted by several security droids, screamed in fear, and went missing. By the time Graf and her crew got there, there was no trace of Hudd, just the statue on the floor. Vaneé told Graf that Hudd had become one of Sith Lord Darth Vader's latest victim.

Escape from Darth Vader's Castle

After Graf escaped, Hudd was tortured by Vaneé with a torture web. He was able to free himself from the web and hid from from Vaneé. Hudd played a game of Hide and Seek from Vaneé and the training droids through the Fortress.

Hudd was recaptured by Vaneé and his droids and placed back into the torture web. As Vaneé was to resume his torturing of Hudd, a Inquisitor ordered him to be turned over to her. However, Vaneé saw that the Inquisitor was Rebel Intelligence Commander Lina Graf in disguise. Graf was able to to free Hudd. As Graf fought Vaneé, Hudd was able to distract Vaneé by blinding him. Hudd and Graff were able to board a Imperial shuttle and escape from the Fortress before Lord Vader arrived.

Return to Vader's Castle

4 to 5 ABY after the Battle of Yavin 4, Hudd and Skritt were doing salvage work at former on Karken. During this time, Hudd had dream of going on a volunteer mission with Commander Luke Skywalker to Dagobah. As he and Skritt were working, Commander Graff and Captain Jaxxon T. Tumperakki arrived in the Rabbit's Foot. They asked for his help in finding her brother Milo Graf. Hudd went with them to Mustafar. Hudd then spoke with Lina about her dream when she woke up. He and the others left the ship to find Milo. Hudd and the others enter the Fortress. When they were confronted by a apparition of Vader, Hudd tossed Skritt at Vader, who was revealed to be Crater. Hudd then realized that Vaneé was still alive. Hudd and the others were then stunned by Vaneé. He was then locked up as Vaneé, believing Vader was still speaking to him through the fumes, attempted resurrect him with Milo. However, it failed. Hudd, the Graffs, Tumperakki, and Skritt were able to escape the fortress with help from the Force spirit of Anakin Skywalker.

Behind the scenes

Thom Hudd first appeared in the 2018 canon comic Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle 1, written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Derek Charm. The idea of Hudd being a thief was derived from the original flashback story for the series' fifth issue, which involved a thief breaking into Vader's fortress. Hudd was named and partially modelled after Tom Huddleston, the co-author of Star Wars: Adventures in Wild Space, a seven-part Star Wars young reader novel series in which Scott worked previously.
