Suppressant shot

Suppressant shots, also referred to as suppressants, were a type of medical technology used by individuals with periods, cycles that caused bleeding, to help manage them. During the Republic Era, several individuals with periods on the Mid Rim planet Naboo used suppressant shots. Among several Naboo human females working for the Royal House of Naboo, the technology was widely used.

In 32 BBY, Officer Mariek Panaka and several other Naboo monarchy guards used suppressant shots to minimize their periods' effect on their daily activities. The same year, the handmaiden Rabé expressed surprise upon learning her queen, Padmé Amidala, had not used suppressant shots and instead opted for painkillers for period management. Not long after, Mariek admonished her husband, Captain Quarsh Panaka, for installing a blood-sensitive sensor and its alarm in Amidala's palace apartments. Though Quarsh had initially intended the alarm to be a security measure, he had not accounted for the teenage girls living there not using suppressants for their periods.

Suppressant shots appeared in Queen's Peril, a 2020 novel written by E. K. Johnston. During the novel's development, Johnston indicated that several members of Lucasfilm Story Group felt that the scene the technology featured in was incredibly awkward and left comments on the draft after reading it. The author felt strongly about the scene's inclusion in the work.
