Subterranean Refuge

The Subterranean Refuge was an area of caves on the planet Bogano, located beneath the Binog Mesa. Bog rats could be found inside the Subterranean Refuge.

Description

The Subterranean Refuge was a bog rat-infested sinkhole cave below the Binog Mesa on the planet Bogano with white and brown striped rock walls. It consisted of a circular chamber and a longer, oval-shaped chamber that ended in a narrow, walled-in slope leading up to a small flat area. Both chambers had circular skylights leading out to the surface of Bogano. An opening in the side of the circular chamber led out to the Great Divide with a flat-topped rocky pillar positioned in front of it inside the cave. This and several other flat areas of raised rock were covered in green plant life, and one raised area had metal struts connecting it to the floor of the cave, which was partially flooded and home to para fish and a kalpi plant.

Beside the metal struts was a mesh with green plant-life growing all across it and beneath this and on several other walls of the chamber there were electronic lights and the associated wiring. A large canister with a light down one side was suspended by struts from the sealing with a metallic panel covering much of the wall next to it at the top of the cave. A series of mounted dishes also hung from the ceiling in several locations and on the highest platform in the chamber there was a large carved block. The chamber with the narrow slope was connected to the circular chamber via two passages, one at its base and one at its ceiling. Its sunken floor was partially flooded but a series of raised rocky platforms stood between the passage from the other chamber and the slope.

History

While researching on Bogano, the Jedi Eno Cordova used the Subterranean Refuge for meditation, but felt alone in the cave as he missed his Padawan, Cere Junda. He left a small box, a stool, and a bag he had brought from the planet Coruscant within the cave. In 14 BBY, the former Padawan Cal Kestis and his droid companion BD-1 visited the refuge while trying to make their way to the Bogano Vault. The pair entered the space containing the narrow slope, where they were watched by a binog looking down from the skylight above. BD-1 then approached the slope, drawing Kestis over to investigate, and the pair saw three zaur climbing along the slope's walls and out into the wider space. Witnessing the zaur caused Kestis to experience a memory of training to use the Force to run along walls with his Jedi Master, Jaro Tapal, allowing him to recall how to use the technique. The former Padawan then used the ability when exiting the refuge.

While in the refuge, Kestis also discovered Cordova's box, stool, and bag and used psychometry to learn about Cordova from them. He also discovered a crate containing a health stim and had BD-1 scan the para fish and a kalpi.
