Rubicon navicomputer

Description

The Rubicon was a navicomputer developed by Microaxial for the Corellian Engineering Corporation for use in CEC YT-1300 light freighters. It worked in conjunction with the YT-1300's SSP05 hyperdrive and the external sensor systems to calculate realspace trajectories as well as safe paths through hyperspace and for this purpose it could hold immense amounts of astrographical data in its banks. It could also be used to calculate a safe route over a hazardous planetary environment.

The Rubicon's hardware consisted of a triangular console on the ship's cockpit and included event and mission timers, an altimeter, course selection keys as well as a manual override option. A viewscreen and an integrated holoprojector could be used to display the selected course through hyperspace to the pilot.

History

The heavily modified YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon was equipped with a Rubicon as part of its standard factory-issued equipment. Despite his modifications to the vessel, Lando Calrissian kept the Rubicon intact until, during desperate circumstances -namely an attack by an Imperial-class Star Destroyer inside the unmapped Maw Cluster- forced him to integrate his destroyed companion and friend L3-37's droid brain into the computer's banks to allow the ship access to her own navigational data.

When smuggler Han Solo won the ship from Lando in a high-stakes game of sabacc, he heavily modified the Rubicon/L3 computer to store more data in additional memory modules. He further kept a clone of the Rubicon's banks in a Microaxial HyD modular navicomputer near the ship's aft engineering station as well as an astrogation plotter and star-chart kit in a strongbox bolted to the underside of the main hold's engineering console.
