Privateer

A privateer was a legitimized pirate, a private person or starship commissioned by an authority to fight or harass enemy vessels under a letter of marque. In the Anoat sector, the Trade Spine League was half-union, half-privateer network.

Privateers were typically given authority to conduct their operations by a governmental authority against enemies deemed hostile to that authority through a letter of marque.
