Ovinon was a Chiss male of the Chiss Ascendancy's Krovi family who held the rank of Junior Captain in the Expansionary Defense Fleet. In 18 BBY, he served aboard the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike, commanded by Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, core name "Lakinda." In that year, the Grayshrike was sent to the Rapacc system to transmit a message of summons to Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn," who had undertaken a mission to the star system. Upon arriving at Rapacc, however, Lakinda was informed by the Paccosh that Thrawn had already left, and was given coordinates for his destination. Before taking her leave from the bridge, Lakinda told Mid Captain Csap'ro'strob "Apros" to apprise Ovinon of the situation when he handed watch over to the junior captain, and that she wanted him to have sky-walker navigator Bet'nih navigate the warship when she was ready.
