Nylasteel was a flexible, yet durable, material, which could be used to create restraints with which individuals could be held in captivity.
Darth Maul's ankles were bound with nylasteel zip-ties while he was on the prison Cog Hive Seven during an underwater fight. Even with his savage strength he was unable to break the nylasteel bonds, and he had to use prison mold mixed with blood to dissolve them. On the Jedi Academy on Ossus in 35 ABY, nylasteel bonds were used to restrain the captured Dark Jedi Alema Rar while she was in a state of unconsciousness. Once Rar regained consciousness, however, she was able to escape the restraints with ease using her Jedi abilities.
