The attempt on his life was a brief popularity boost to Valorum, allowing him to pass a taxation proposal, and the death of the Trade Federation's leadership allowed Nute Gunray to ascend to power as Viceroy of the Trade Federation. Gunray, who leaned anti-Republic, replaced much of the leadership with like minded individuals, thus planting the seeds for a later conflict between the two parties.
