Mandalorian vambrace

Mandalorian vambraces were forearm brace-like devices designed to combat the Force abilities of a Jedi, but were also utilized for many other combative purposes. Vambraces could be equipped with a large array of different weapons, such as blasters, darts, flamethrowers, missiles, vibroblades, and whipcords. The Mandalorians developed these vambraces alongside their armor as a reaction to the Jedi's abilities encountered during the Mandalorian-Jedi War.

Description

Mandalorian vambraces were combat gear designed to counteract the Force abilities of a Jedi. As such, they were equipped with various weapons that also proved useful against other foes. What was specifically on each pair of vambraces varied depending on the owner's fighting style. Like their armor, a Mandalorian's vambraces were made of beskar, making them impervious to lightsaber attacks. A few Mandalorians had touchscreen displays on their vambraces, allowing them to control systems and weapons.

Boba Fett's vambraces

Boba Fett's vambraces were equipped with a variety of different offensive and defensive capabilities. His right vambrace had a laser targeting system. Beneath that, was a tiny launcher for tracking devices. Right below that was a dart launcher, capable of firing tranquilizer, stun, shock, or explosive darts. On the other side of his right vambrace, was a whipcord launcher, which could fire a 25-meter-long fibercord whip. On his left vambrace, was a Micro-Rocket Armor-Mounting; which could accommodate a wide variety of micro-rockets, including MM9 concussion missiles from Kelvarek Consolidated Arms. Off to the side was a ZX miniature flame projector from Czerka Arms, that when combined with a reinforced fuel line connected to his Z-6 jetpack, could provide a steady supply of fuel for up to three minutes. Further down on the left vambrace, was a holoprojector, communications system, and a Dur-24 wrist laser from BlasTech Industries. However, while his vambraces contained multi-purpose buttons and switches, they did not contain a touchscreen display. Fett also integrated a chain code into his armor's vambraces.

Bo-Katan Kryze utilized vambraces since her time as a member of Death Watch during the Clone Wars, and later during the Imperial and New Republic Eras. Her left vambrace contained a shield projector. The right vambrace was equipped with a wrist blaster, electroshock darts, a wrist vibroblade, and a whipcord launcher.

Din Djarin's vambraces

Din Djarin owned vambraces that were forged by the Armorer. The vambraces supplemented Djarin's other weapons and fighting techniques. As such, many features were substituted for a more complementary style. His left vambrace was equipped with whistling birds, allowing him to launch twelve miniature explosive projectiles at once. Djarin had a whipcord launcher in both of his vambraces, allowing him to fire slightly less durable but significantly longer lariats. Both vambraces were also equipped with a flamethrower as well as a fuel tank, enabling him to operate without the need of his jetpack. Djarin could control his jetpack with his right vambrace, even if it was not on him.

Sabine Wren's vambraces

Sabine Wren's vambraces were a gift from Protector of Concord Dawn, Fenn Rau. They were similar to Fett's, yet the left vambrace contained a shield projector above the laser targeting system and motion detectors below the paralyzing darts and repulsor. The right vambrace was equipped with a flamethrower and a grappling line. Both of Wren's vambraces contained touchscreen displays, providing her with an alternate means of monitoring and controlling weapons, sensors, communications systems, and the heads-up display inside her helmet.

History

Jango Fett's vambraces

Jango Fett's vambraces

Following the Mandalorians' war against the Jedi, they developed vambraces to work in tandem with their armor to combat the Jedi's abilities. Bounty hunters, such as the famed Mandalorian mercenary and foundling Jango Fett, and later his son Boba, used them in their line of work.

Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla and his followers, such as Bo-Katan Kryze, used vambraces during Death Watch's exile from Mandalore. Vizsla used vambraces when he fought Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, forces of the Hutt Clan, and when he dueled the renegade Sith Lord Maul for control of the Shadow Collective.

During her training with the Darksaber in 2 BBY, Sabine Wren used her vambraces in combat with Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus and his Padawan Ezra Bridger. After learning to fight with the vambraces and Darksaber combined, she was able to defeat both Force users. The post-Great Purge Mandalorian group known as the Tribe also used vambraces. In 9 ABY, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin utilized vambraces in battling Moff Gideon's Imperial remnant on multiple occasions.

In 35 ABY, the bounty hunter Carib Diss wore a Mandalorian vambrace equipped with whistling birds while residing on Kijimi.

Behind the scenes

The Mandalorian vambrace first appeared with Boba Fett in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. They were first identified as such in the animated TV series Star Wars Rebels season three episode Trials of the Darksaber.
