Mandalorian (writing system)

Mandalorian was the written form of Mando'a, the spoken language of the Mandalorian people. It was also used to read and write Galactic Basic.

Republic Era

At the time of the Clone Wars, the Mandalorian secret service wore a crest on their shoulder that read "IN DEFENSE OF MANDALORE".

Imperial Era

During the Galactic Civil War, when the Mandalorian Protector Fenn Rau flew off in his Fang fighter while under attack on the Third moon of Concord Dawn, his cockpit monitor said "TARGET LOCKED" in Mandalorian script. However, when Kanan Jarrus broke into his fighter, the monitor switched to "WARNING".

Later, Mandalorian writing scrawled on the wall of Maul's sanctuary in the Nightsister lair on Dathomir read "KENOBI", the object of Maul's obsession.

New Republic Era

A few years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a holographic readout of Boba Fett's chain code was written in Mandalorian, vertically from top to bottom. It contained the excerpts "FOUNDLING", "TOOK INTO", "THE YEAR THE", "CONCORD DAWN", "MENTOR JASTE", "FATHER FETT", "BOBA FETT."

Later, the Mandalorian Din Djarin showed The Armorer a segment of a Mandalorian inscription on a green trinitite fragment which he obtained from Jawas, who acquired it from someone who visited Mandalore, which had been destroyed during the Great Purge. The inscription, which was mirror-inverted, read:

A video monitor accessed by R5-D4 in Din Djarin's N-1 starfighter said:

The same text appeared on a monitor on the console of Bo-Katan Kryze's Gauntlet starfighter.

A commemorative plaque down by the mystical waters in the Mines of Mandalore read:

"Control override"

"Control override"

Interestingly, when Bo-Katan Kryze read the plaque to Djarin, she misread "Mandalore the Great defeated and rode the mythical beast" as "Mandalore the Great is said to have tamed the mythical beast."

As two young members of The Tribe were training in combat at the covert's beach, two boxes were lying in the sand next to them, bearing Mandalorian labels. One box read "FOU: G", while the other said "FOU: J". A similar box lying in a cave when Djarin addressed the rest of The Tribe said "TRO:G".

When Kryze was flying over Plazir-15, "LAND: VECTOR" and "NAV" appeared on two monitors on the console of her Gauntlet starfighter. When the planet's automated guidance took control of the ship, "CONTROL OVERRIDE" was flashing on a different monitor. When Kryze was flying over Nevarro, three words written in Mandalorian appeared on the first two monitors, with the third word being "NAV", like when she flew over Plazir-15.

Two Mandalorian flags were sitting in the camp of a group of Mandalorian privateers on Plazir-15. However, none of them made any sense when translated.

Once the covert assembled at their destination on Nevarro, one of the boxes they had brought along was labeled "1024".

Shortly before the outbreak of the First Order-Resistance War, the logo of a business specializing in snow cones was written in Mandalorian, reading "SNOKE CONES".

The Mandalorian inscription segment that Din Djarin shows The Armorer in The Mandalorian episode "Chapter 17: The Apostate" is taken from the Book of Exodus verse 10:5-6 in the King James Version of the Bible. Verse 10:5-6 is about the plague of locusts, one of the ten Plagues of Egypt; paralleling the Purge of Mandalore. The full verse goes (the text that appears on-screen is set in bold):
