Jedi holocron (Alaris Prime)

A Jedi holocron was found during the Wookiee colonization of the moon Alaris Prime between 39 BBY and 36 BBY. It held knowledge of an ancient grove and could generate nova crystals inside a Jedi temple. Following its discovery in a camp belonging to the Wookiee Shoran, the holocron was retrieved by Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi and placed in a Jedi temple built specifically to hold it.

Description

A Jedi holocron was located on the moon Alaris Prime. It had a circular gray base, a blue sphere in its center, and three pointed prongs extending above the sphere from the base. The holocron contained knowledge of an ancient grove associated with the Jedi Order on Alaris Prime and had the ability to generate nova crystals when placed within a Jedi Temple. It could only be held by Force-sensitive individuals such as the Jedi.

History

During the colonization of Alaris Prime by Wookiees between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, the holocron was discovered by the Wookiee Shoran in a gap in the forest inside his camp. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, an advisor to the Wookiees, wanted the holocron secured and received permission from the Jedi Council to have the Wookiees build a temple in Chewbacca's camp to contain it. Once the temple had been built by workers under the Wookiee Chewbacca, Jinn's Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, arrived on Alaris Prime and traveled from Chewbacca's camp to Shoran's camp to gather the holocron. After the holocron was placed in the temple, it slowly generated nova crystals for Chewbacca.

During the Battle for Alaris Prime, where the Wookiees drove the illegitimate Trade Federation presence from the moon, studies of the holocron revealed the details of the ancient grove, which was situated near a Wookiee base. Jinn and the Wookiees broke through a line of trees to find the path to the grove. There, Jinn learned the ability of Jedi Concentration, with which he could convert hostile buildings to the Wookiee side.

Behind the scenes

The holocron was first mentioned in Prima Games' strategy guide by Steven L. Kent—released on November 7, 2001—for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, released on November 11, 2001. It appeared in the sixth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, "Allies and Jedi," which teaches the player about the mechanic of collecting and storing holocrons. In the game, collecting every holocron on a map and holding them for 200 in-game days gives victory to the player, so in addition to the Jedi holocron, an inaccessible holocron was placed in the campaign level to prevent an alternate ending.
