The Janta were a Dantari tribe living on the planet Dantooine. Most of the Janta lived in their village and the tribe also established a stronghold in a cave. The Janta were in conflict with the Kunga and the Mokk, another Dantari tribes.
During the Galactic Civil War, the Janta were rumored to allow Rebels to hide amongst their numbers. In 1 ABY, a band of Janta attacked an artisan near their cave and stole a couple of his sculptures. The victim later realized that these primitive Janta were not violent but just looking for food. At some point, a Janta clan leader was captured by the Galactic Empire and incarcerated in the Imperial Prison on the planet Dathomir. This clan leader was later killed while trying to escape from the prison.
The Janta appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.
