Hieroglyphics

Hieroglyphics was an archaeological term describing alien, primitive, ancient, and obscure forms of writing system, usually carved on hard surfaces. Their usage seems to have been in ritualistic, monumental, pictographic and decorative context. These uses and traits distinguished them from the more modern and casual alphabetic systems.

The ancient Sith used a hieroglyphic script, which was evolved to High Sith via simplification, eventually resulting to Common Sith and the Massassi alphabets.

Spires covered with alien hieroglyphics were seen among the monuments and artifacts in the Valley of the Jedi on Ruusan, a necropolis made after the New Sith Wars.

Sanyassans used hieroglyphs, considered crude and uninterpretable by Pfilbee Jhorn. The Dressellians also used primitive hieroglyphs, until they adopted the Botha alphabet. The Abyssin written language was also composed of hieroglyphs.
