Writing system

A writing system was a methodology of portraying notions, concepts, or vocal sounds of a particular language. Writing could be on paper or flimsiplast, or displayed on a datapad or a viewscreen. Many writing systems were used throughout the galaxy, perhaps at least one written script for each language.

Aurebesh was the formal and most common system for Galactic Basic. Naboo, although a Basic-speaking world, also alternatively utilized two separate systems: Futhark, for formal designations such as on a starship's hull, and Futhork, for informal writing.

The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic was an article published in 38 ABY to cover how the galaxy's languages, writing systems, and typography evolved over the millennia.
