Grock

Biography

Prior to 9 BBY Grock joined a merc crew where he later met Dana and the pair became friends. After a promising start, the crew attempted to swindle the Empire during a deal, but the attempt failed. Because of this, the pair decided to leave the crew and embark on their own business venture together, figuring things would be better for them that way as their former crewmembers ended up dead or imprisoned following the attempted ruse.

Eventually settling on Koboh prior to 9 BBY, the duo harbored dreams of striking lucky on the frontier and became regulars at Pyloon's Saloon where they eventually met Jedi Knight Cal Kestis in 9 BBY. It was apparent to him and Dana that they shared a talent for turning opportunity into profit and they quickly began taking and performing jobs. During one job, the pair successfully stole a drive core, however, Dana dropped a half-ton durasteel brace on him when a shiverpede emerged and startled her. She claims he lost his nerve at the sight of the beast, but he strongly denied this, and she later apologized for the mishap.

After initially stating that he didn't want to risk his neck working on gang turf at Dredger Gorge, the pair eventually planned on repairing the gorge's dams. Their idea was to short the central conduit and slice it through the emergency couplings to get the sluice gates operational. Grock also intended to plug fresh energy cores into the dams to get them working again - an idea that earned the praise of Kestis. It was a trick he learned from an old friend who was described by Dana as a top-notch engineer with a winning smile. However, when that engineer shorted them on their cut after a big take, Grock left an anonymous tip with the authorities, and the engineer was apprehended.

The presence of the Bedlam Raiders on the planet meant the duo had to be selective in the tasks they undertook. Whilst Dana refused to go off-world for jobs because of the threat posed by the Raiders, Grock stated he would happily get off-world before things got worse.

After he decided it was time to collect a big score, the pair set out to steal an industrial fuel injector from the mountains, fully aware that other prospectors were too afraid to attempt the action because of the Imperial garrison stationed there. During the theft, Grock was killed by Imperial stormtroopers. Whilst he was unable to radio Dana and warn her of the threat, he was able to extract the injector before his death, which Dana collected and referred to as her bereavement tax. Upon finding his corpse, she vowed to return and bury him properly.

Personality and traits

Grock was guarded in nature, and much less risk-averse than his friend and treasure-hunting partner Dana. He was described as strong, sharp, and grumpy enough to curdle water but he never lost his belief that he and Dana could one day collect a big score and live comfortably.

He was also prone to reminiscing, as he remembered his old crew members with fondness though he did not always recollect the full details. At one point, he recalled an old working acquaintance Kagh'rell, and wondered where she was in the galaxy until Dana reminded him that they rigged her sublights causing her ship to explode in orbit, thus killing her.

Despite his gruff mannerisms, he extolled to Cal Kestis that the happiest folk live somewhere between what they want and what they got, though Dana questioned this wisdom.
