Flatcake

Flatcakes were a type of flat, round breakfast pancake favored by multiple species in the galaxy, including humans. Shortly before the Clone Wars, passengers traveling aboard an AA-9 Freighter-Liner between the planets Coruscant and Naboo were served flatcakes. Years later, during the Cold War, a variety known as Trandoshani flatcakes was served in the Canto Bight casino on the planet Cantonica. The Suerton Wodibin, who was particularly fond of the food, served himself a plate of flatcakes and sautéed fruit at the casino.

Description

Flatcakes were a type of flat, round, and brown pancake that could be prepared using a flatcake turner and served as a breakfast food. Flatcakes could be eaten by humans, Twi'leks, Suertons, and Heptooinians.

Shortly before the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, a cafeteria servant droid stationed aboard an AA-9 Freighter-Liner traveling from the planets Coruscant to Naboo cooked flatcakes for the ship's passengers. While carrying four platters of flatcakes and flipping one of them, the droid shooed away the astromech droid R2-D2 from the ship's food counter.

In 11 BBY, the human Jedi-in-hiding Kanan Jarrus joked that he and the Twi'lek pilot Hera Syndulla could order flatcakes while they were cramped together in the cargo hold of the transport Moonglow-72 during a conflict on the planet Gorse.

Time for Flatcakes

In 34 ABY, a racing fathier kept at the Canto Bight racetrack on the planet Cantonica was named "Time for Flatcakes." When the trio of Suerton gamblers known as the Lucky Three and their Heptooinian friend Kaljach Sonmi arrived at the track looking to bet, they learned the fathier's name from the Canto Casino employee Joris.

The Suerton Wodibin enjoyed flatcakes.

This prompted the Suerton Wodibin to claim it truly was always time for flatcakes, and a hungry Sonmi absentmindedly mumbled that he would like some flatcakes. The Suertons misunderstood Sonmi's meaning and purchased "Time for Flatcakes" for him, causing the trio and Sonmi to temporarily fall out. Wodibin, who had previously unsuccessfully tried to buy flatcakes during the late hours of the night in Canto Bight, later found a buffet at the Canto Casino serving some of what Sonmi considered the most delicious Trandoshani flatcakes in the galaxy and served himself a plate of flatcakes and sautéed fruit to eat.

Before the Seurton could eat them all, he collided with the bartender Ganzer, causing the plate of food and a tray of drinks that Ganzer was carrying to spill all over the professional gambler Orisha Okum, who was playing a game of pazaak with Sonmi. The spill revealed an alterable pazaak card that Okum was using to cheat in the game, but Sonmi allowed her to play it anyway. The card then malfunctioned because of the spilled food and drink, causing Okum to lose the game.

Behind the scenes

Flatcakes first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, and were first named in the 2007 Star Wars Legends novel Allegiance, written by Timothy Zahn. The name was then brought into the new Star Wars canon by the 2014 novel A New Dawn, which was written by John Jackson Miller
