In 34 ABY, during their search for Maz Kanata's associate Master Codebreaker in their attempt to help the Resistance to escape from the First Order's clutches, Finn, Rose Tico, and BB-8 traveled to the Canto Casino at Canto Bight, which was located near the Canto Bight racetrack, where they witnessed a fathier race. Although they were incapacitated with stun blasts by the Canto Bight Police Department and hauled off to the Canto Bight police headquarters, Finn and Rose managed to escape from the jail to the racetrack thanks to the help of DJ and BB-8.
Once at the racetrack, Finn and Tico went to hide from the police and started to plan how they were going to get out of the city. They ultimately chose to escape with a fathier. Temiri Blagg, a stable boy who took care of the fathiers at the racetrack, considered calling the racetrack's security, but Finn and Rose managed to convince him and his friends that they were from the Resistance, giving the boy Tico's Resistance ring. Immediately, Finn and Tico released the fathiers and they escaped from Canto Bight.
