Altor-class supply ship

Characteristics

The Altor-class supply ship was a huge class of supply ship, measuring 4,600 meters in length. The supply ships were propelled by seven powerful thrusters, with each individual thruster circled by a cluster of eight auxiliary engines, totaling the number of auxiliary engines to fifty-six. It carried six spheroidal fuel containers.

The ship was able to carry out deep-space repairs as a result of its stern housing a cluster of hangar/dry dock complexes, meaning it could accommodate frigate-sized capital ships. Altor-class supply ships had multiple articulated arms with refueling nozzles, allowing them to handle two capital ships simultaneously—one on each side.

Role

Altor-class supply ships were used by the Galactic Empire for fuel replenishing.

History

The Altor-class supply ship was produced by the Galactic Empire, which was founded in 19 BBY. At some point during the Imperial Era, an Altor-class supply ship was based at Naval Station Validusia, an immense Imperial space station in the Validusia system.

Pikka's Pride was inspected by the Galactic Empire when it entered the Coruscant system.

During the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the Alliance utilized at least one Altor-class supply ship—Pikka's Pride. Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, the owner of Pikka's Pride was sent to deliver fertilizers for algae farms within a farming platform in the Core Worlds' Coruscant system. At the same time, the ship was secretly carrying four rebel ships—the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon and three RZ-1 A-wing interceptors—so they could undertake an aerial assault on the Imperial capital planet Coruscant. Once Pikka's Pride arrived in the system, the ship was boarded and inspected by the Empire. After passing the inspection, Pikka's Pride proceeded on its journey. As the ship reached as close to Coruscant as possible before it could draw the attention of nearby Star Destroyers, the owner of Pikka's Pride unloaded the four rebel ships and continued onward to the platform.

The Altor-class supply ship was introduced in the current Star Wars canon in the thirty-fourth issue of the magazine series Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon, published by De Agostini around August 26, 2015. The ship first appeared in the thirty-sixth issue of the 2020 comic series Star Wars. The issue was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Andrea Di Vito, and published by Marvel Comics on July 5, 2023.

The Altor-class tanker originated as a 2010 fanon digital model by Ansel Hsiao. It then entered continuity both in name and design when it was introduced as the Altor-class replenishment ship in the 2012 Star Wars Legends reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. Hsiao was also an illustrator for the book. The Latin word "altor" translates to "nourisher" or "sustainer," meanings which Hsiao echoed when he created the ship.
