Wurtz was an officer of the Galactic Republic who held the military rank of admiral within the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars against the Separatist Alliance, and was the commanding officer of his own fleet of warships early during the conflict. In 22 BBY, after Master of the Order Mace Windu and Grand Master Yoda learned of the dire situation facing High Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and their forces on the planet Christophsis, Master Windu contacted a clone navigation officer from the Jedi Temple war room to communicate with Wurtz that he needed three of Wurtz's star cruisers.
Shortly afterwards, a Republic fleet consisting of three of Wurtz's Venator-class Star Destroyers and four Acclamator-class assault ships arrived above Christophsis under the command of Fleet Admiral Wullf Yularen and Master Yoda. After engaging the Separatist blockade, the Republic warships managed to break through and land reinforcements to their beleagured forces on the surface of Christophsis, ending the battle.
