Wupiupi

The wupiupi was a type of golden currency used by the Hutts on the planet Tatooine. Sixteen wupiupi coins equalled one trugut, and sixty-four of them equalled one peggat. The value of a single wupiupi coin was around 0.625 Republic credits. On one of their sides, wupiupi coins bore an old Huttese code of trade.

Around the time of the Invasion of Naboo, large amphibians called gorgs were sold in the Mos Espa Market for seven wupiupi apiece, which was considered a princely sum.

Wupiupi first appeared in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, the first installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The images for wupiupi coins featured in Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia are Ottoman coins issued by Sultans Selim III and Mahmud II in real life.

Wupiupi appeared in the second episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series, which was the first show to feature wupiupi, and it was the first time that the currency was designed by the prop making team. The team made at least four prop coins which were made to look very detailed.
