Wroshyr Tree Cake

Wroshyr Tree Cake was a cake created by Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs that was shaped like a wroshyr tree. Tuggs created the dish for a Wookiee away from his homeworld for the holiday of Life Day, and he later included a recipe for it in his first cookbook.

Description

Wroshyr Tree Cake was a type of brown, frosted cake that could be consumed by Wookiees. The cake was garnished with moss on its sides, and it was created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs on the planet Takodana while he was working at the castle of the pirate Maz Kanata.

History

Strono Tuggs was the creator of Wroshyr Tree Cake.

Strono Tuggs was the creator of Wroshyr Tree Cake.

Tuggs first baked the cake when a Wookiee was stranded on Takodana for the Wookiee holiday of Life Day; in order to cheer him up and make him feel at home, the Artiodac shaped the cake like one of the wroshyr trees of the Wookiee's homeworld, the planet Kashyyyk. Tuggs took his arms not being ripped off by the Wookiee as a sign that the cake was a hit, and he continued to bake the cake for subsequent Wookiees in the same situation. A recipe for Wroshyr Tree Cake was included in The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, authored by Tuggs in 34 ABY. In the book, he shared the story of the cake's creation and noted that he expected the reader to enjoy the cake just as much as the Wookiee did.

Tuggs later noted in his holiday cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, that, despite his Wroshyr Tree Cake recipe, he was not actually familiar with what Life Day was all about. In the recipe for Kashyyyk cake included in the book, he recalled including the tree-shaped cake in his previous recipe collection, after which many Wookiees sent their own authentic recipes to Tuggs for Life Day use.

Behind the scenes

Wroshyr Tree Cake was introduced in the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the cake calls for unsalted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, cashew or almond flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking powder, baking soda, and all-purpose flour.

The frosting then requires cream cheese, more butter, powdered sugar, more vanilla extract, maple syrup, and cocoa powder. Lastly, edible moss is placed around the sides of the cake. The moss calls for the crumbs of graham crackers, more granulated sugar, pistachios, more butter, and green food coloring.
