Wookieepedia:WookieeProject: Women

WookieeProject: Women is a WookieeProject dedicated to improving our articles about women, both in-universe and out-of-universe, as well as articles which have been or may be subject to misogynist/sexist edits, such as characters with she/her pronouns. It's also about supporting women and nonbinary people who edit on Wookieepedia. Wookieepedia has had issues which projects like this or WP:Pride, continually work to improve. You can read more on this specific issue in an open statement by this project's founder, Dropbearemma.

Our article work can range from promoting them to status (Comprehensive articles, Good articles and Featured articles), as well as cleaning up articles, especially ones with objectifying and sexist language.

You don't have to be a woman to join! However, as we embark on fixing articles that were only deemed acceptable under past sexist standards, it is important to understand what sexism and misogyny are, and how they can be perpetuated through the language we use. You can find resources to help you on the Resources tab, or by asking other project members for help.

If you want to participate, put your username in the 'participants' field of the infobox. We encourage those who are comfortable doing so to state your pronouns, both to prevent misgendering and to help foster an environment where pronoun-sharing is normalized so others feel safe to share.

WP:Women is also about supporting women and nonbinary people and therefore creating an inclusive community, where they can feel welcome and uplifted.

As nonbinary people often face the same or similar treatment as women, especially those who are perceived as women by others, we welcome them in our support structures too; we are also very willing to assist nonbinary people in creating their own parallel support structures if they want them. We don't want to police gender, and want to make it very clear that we welcome our trans siblings just as much as cis women.

Project goals

Fight the patriarchy.

Fight the patriarchy.

  • Provide support to project members as we edit the wiki. Nobody is in this alone!
  • Discuss and propose site policies that better represent and protect women and nonbinary people in the fandom and on this site
  • Clean up sexism and objectification of women and those with she/her pronouns in articles. Whether the language originates in the source or was introduced by editors, it must be addressed.
  • Expanding stubs and addressing maintenance issues in articles listed on our current projects tab
  • Promoting articles to featured, good, or comprehensive status—peer-reviewed articles that are highlighted to readers as examples of the best work on Wookieepedia. Elevating these pages to "status articles" will better represent the contributions of women and those with she/her pronouns to the franchise and reflect the importance of representation within these stories. Check out the current status articles and nominations! You can also put nominations where the articles aren't about characters/people, but are strongly related in topic, such as Dancing-girl costume.
