The military rank of warrant officer first appeared in the Thrawn novel. Although Ardwyl Hercho is identified as a warrant officer, Hercho wore the rank insignia plaque of a major within the Stormtrooper Corps according to the production sheet of rank insignia plaques created by Glyn Dillon.
