Warhead countermeasure

Warhead countermeasures were self-defense mechanisms employed on various small spacecraft such as starfighters and light freighters, designed to protect the ship against incoming warheads. They came in at least three varieties: , chaff, and flares.

Countermeasures were introduced in the game Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance as a means of protecting one's ship from enemy warheads, but went about this function in very different ways, each with its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. However, they appear more than anything else to be a game mechanic, and are not mentioned in any other source, apart from fleetingly in Legacy of the Force: Bloodlines. This does not rule out the possibility that were a standard armament on most small ships, as Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance suggests; however, they are merely not mentioned.
