Vultar system

The Vultar system was a part of the Core Worlds and contained the planet Vultar. It was also the location of the Cosmic Turbine gravity-manipulation machine, which was believed to have originally been used by the ancient Celestial species to construct the star system. In 4250 BBY, the Vultar system was destroyed after a group of Dark Jedi activated the Cosmic Turbine in order to use it against their Jedi Order enemies. The destruction left behind the Vultar Nebula.

Description

The Vultar system was a part of the Arrowhead region in the Slice portion of the Core Worlds. It contained several planets, including Vultar. A group of massive machines, which included the immense gravity-manipulation device known as the Cosmic Turbine, was also located in the star system.

History

The Vultar system was believed to have been created by the Celestials.

The Vultar system was believed to have been created by the Celestials.

Evidence pointed to the Celestials, an advanced species that disappeared from the galaxy in 30,000 BBY, having used the Cosmic Turbine and the other devices to construct the Vultar system, including its planets. It was believed that the Killiks, a species transplanted by the Celestials off the former's homeworld Alderaan, witnessed the creation of the Vultar system.

During the Third Great Schism of 4250 BBY, a group of Dark Jedi took up residence in the Vultar system. There, the dark side adherents discovered the Celestial machines and activated them in order to use them against their enemy, the Jedi Order. The darksiders proved to be unable to control the devices, however, leading to a catastrophic accident known as the Vultar Cataclysm that destroyed the entire Vultar system, including the machines and the Dark Jedi. The catastrophe left behind the Vultar Nebula.

The destruction of the Vultar system came to be chronicled in Galactic Republic records. A section of the 990 BBY Jedi trainee guidebook The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force authored by the Jedi Chief Librarian Restelly Quist described the Vultar Cataclysm as having led to "the obliteration of an entire world," and the star system's fate was also mentioned in the Jedi historian Tionne Solusar's publication Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, published in 40 ABY. In 1 BBY, the Obroan Institute for Archaeology researcher Doctor Insmot Bowen also noted the destruction of the Vultar system during a Galactic Empire debriefing on the Celestials.

Behind the scenes

The Vultar system was first mentioned in the 2005 reference book The New Essential Chronology by Daniel Wallace and Kevin J. Anderson. In 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas placed it in grid square L-10.

The star system was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the section that would have mentioned the system was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the Cosmic Turbine was later released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.
