The Vreni Island settlement was a prime tourist location, where people could stay at a luxurious hotel or dine at outdoor cafes. A notable attraction within the settlement was the outdoor Grand Theater of Vreni Island. Outside the settlement was a dense forest and a beautiful beach.
As the Galactic Civil War escalated after the Battle of Yavin, the city eventually became a Rebel Alliance stronghold.
In 1 ABY, Vreni Island hosted a large Life Day celebration. A group of Wookiees, including Kkatamik, traveled to the city in order to spread the ideals of Life Day.
Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik Horn kept a hologram of the island in their home.
Karrek Flim, Venthan Chassu, and Vinya Maysor were residents or visitors of the city after the Battle of Yavin.
Tyrena appeared in the video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. The name Vreni Island refers to both the geographical island and the settlement on the island. In the game, Vreni Island is a permanent stronghold for the Rebel Alliance. With the release of the "Publish 11.5" on December 14, 2004, Vreni Island was the host of the yearly in-game event known as the Wookiee Life Day. The Life Day event was later completely revamped and moved to other cities the subsequent years.
