That would be a bit of confirmation bias I'm afraid. While it is possible that it's a reference, it's also just as likely that the author put together a few syllables for a character mentioned in passing. If we say that it's a Bionicle reference, then why not have us say it's a reference to the band MAKUTA as well, the existence of which I just learned of through Google.
