The Empire hired Mandalorians to hold the system, which they did by taking control of several power plants on the system's main inhabited planet and threatening to detonate them—which would sterilize the planet and kill all 3.5 billion beings who lived there—if New Republic ships began landing, essentially taking the entire world hostage.
