The male individual was a captain in the fleet of the Rebel Alliance who served aboard the light freighter Trumpet's Call. In 3 ABY the Trumpet's Call was attacked by forces of the Galactic Empire. During the engagement, the Trumpet's Call took enough damage that the captain and the rest of the crew either suffocated or burned to death as the life support systems failed.
An infiltration team from the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Herald took the damaged Trumpet's Call to a rebel flotilla in the Elochar sector, where they posed as rebel casualties and were taken in by the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry. The bodies of the captain and his crew remained on the Trumpet's Call during that time, and the rebel soldier Brand stepped over the captain's body when investigating the bridge of the light freighter. The soldier's immediately recognized the captain's body when she pulled up his entry in the Trumpet's Call.
