In 40 BBY, the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn questioned his colleague, the Grand Master Yoda, on why the Galactic Republic allowed corporations such as the Czerka Corporation to enslave others, a practice he felt was barbaric. In response, Yoda related that Uro's arachnid species consumed their weak offspring, offering it as an example of unethical actions the Republic did not prevent.
