Unidentified Dark Lord (Great Temple)

The mummified alchemically-preserved remains of this Dark Lord were located within the Hall of Judgment in the Great Temple at the Valley of the Dark Lords on the planet Korriban.

Dark Lord of the Sith

A Force-sensitive individual served as a Dark Lord of the Sith of the Sith Empire. The deceased body of the Dark Lord, which remained untouched by time, was preserved by the Sith alchemy within the Hall of Judgment in the Great Temple at the Valley of the Dark Lords on the planet Korriban.

After the Dark Lord of the Sith and Galactic Emperor Darth Sidious perished aboard the Death Star II, the ancient Dark Lord and at least three other deceased Sith spirits aided Palpatine in his journey out of Chaos back to the living plane of existence and into a clone body.

In 11 ABY, the reborn Darth Sidious visited the Great Temple seeking counsel from the spirits of his Sith predecessors in order to restore his decaying clone body. As they traveled through the ancient Sith crypt, the Dark Side Adept T'iaz felt the dark side power emanating from the place. Palpatine revealed to him that the ancient Dark Lords were preserved by the Sith alchemy that made them outcasts. The Dark Lord doubted his success and offered him Vader's tomb, but Sidious declined and instead demanded to be healed. The spirit suggested Palpatine to gaze into the oracle stone, through which Palpatine learned that the only way for him to survive would to to transfer his spirit into Anakin Solo, the newborn son of Princess Leia Organa Solo. The other spirits gave Sidious counsel and bid him farewell a final time.

Equipment

The Dark Lord of the Sith was equipped with dark armor plates and wore a helmet. An oracle stone was held in their hands.

Behind the scenes

The Dark Lord, albeit unnamed, first appeared in the 1995 comic book Empire's End 2, written by Tom Veitch and illustrated by Jim Baikie. The character was identified as one of the "Dark Lords of ages past" in the Empire's End audio drama, which included four distinct voices and multiple background voices.

The article The Emperor's Pawns, published in 2001's Star Wars Gamer 5 and written by Abel G. Peña and Juan Schwartz, expanded on Palpatine's visit to Korriban shortly after the Battle of Yavin mentioned in Empire's End 2. It is said that he "enraged the mummified Sith by demanding dark side knowledge." It is unclear whether the mummified Sith mentioned are meant to be the Dark Lords in the Great Temple from Empire's End 2.

Inconsistencies

Three unidentified Exiles arrive on Korriban.

In the comic, Palpatine explains that the mummified ancients were exiled for practicing alchemy, which suggests they were affiliated with the Dark Jedi Exiles, a claim supported by the 1994 comic book Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith 1, where Vodo-Siosk Baas mentions that the mummified remains of the Exiles were preserved forever on Korriban. The 1994 comic book Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith 3 depicts possibly at least fourteen thrones in the Great Temple on Korriban, contradicting the twelve Dark Jedi established by the 2012 reference book Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side. This article refrains from linking the Dark Lord with the Exiles.
