Trey King, better known by his given name Rex Ogle, was born on August 18, 1978 in Austin, Texas in the United States. Beginning in November 2011, Ogle began work as an editor for publisher Scholastic.

During his time at Scholastic, Ogle served as editor of the initial entries in the non-canon chapter book series Star Wars: Jedi Academy, working with author Jeffrey Brown to create the first three books, Jedi Academy, Return of the Padawan, and The Phantom Bully, as well as the activity book Attack of the Journal. The titles were published on August 27, 2013; July 29, 2014; June 30, 2015; and August 25, 2015 respectively.

Ogle is only officially credited in The Phantom Bully, although he received special thanks from Brown in the first two books of the series. After working with Brown, Ogle continued to edit further works in the series with new author Jarrett J. Krosoczka, but it remains unclear which titles he worked on before departing from his position at Scholastic in December 2014. Under the Trey King pseudonym, Ogle authored his first Star Wars children's title, Star Wars: A Very Vader Valentine's Day, an activity book published by Scholastic on November 26, 2013.

Several years later, King began to author Star Wars young readers titles for publisher Disney–Lucasfilm Press beginning with three illustrated short stories in the anthology The Original Trilogy Stories, published on September 1, 2015. King's stories, "The Hero's Journey Begins," "The Revelation," and "Flight and Fight!," adapt sequences from the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi respectively. On March 19, 2019, all of King's stories from the anthology were adapted into an unabridged audiobook.

King's next short story, "Destroy the Death Star!," was published on December 18, 2015 in the anthology 5-Minute Star Wars Stories. The story adapts the Battle of Yavin from A New Hope. "Destroy the Death Star" was adapted as part of an unabridged audiobook on January 17, 2022. King went on to author Death Star Battle, a World of Reading book similar to "Destroy the Death Star!"—the title adapts the same sequences from A New Hope and features the same art, albeit with different text. The book was published on February 2, 2016.
