A transfer tube was used on large starships to travel between multiple decks. It was similar to a turbolift, but passengers would be floated through the tubes using repulsorlifts, but not cars. Lift tubes would bring passengers up and drop shafts would lower them down.
The Queen of Empire had transfer tubes onboard. Reck Desh forced Han Solo to walk into a deactivated drop shaft, but as Solo did so he grabbed Droma's tail, and pulled himself back up when Desh and the Peace Brigade were gone.
