Training clicker

A training clicker was a device used for training creatures. Safari droid SF-R3 at one point tried using one to train porgs, with limited success.

Description

A training clicker was a small handheld device that was mostly orange and gray. The device had buttons on it that produced a clicking sound when pressed. The clicking was intended to cause creatures to be easily trained, though the clicking had no effect on porgs, a species of non-sentient birds.

Asteroid field

During or after 34 ABY, the Safari droid SF-R3 and the cam droid CAM owned a training clicker that they stored on their ship. The Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, an organization dedicated to studying the variety of species in the galaxy, sent the two droids to an asteroid field to learn how to find mynocks, a species of silicon-based bat-like parasites After luring a mynock out of a hole with batteries, more mynocks tried to drain the two droids' power, so they quickly went back to their ship. They discovered that the ship was infested with mynocks and most of SF-R3's power was drained by the mynocks. SF-R3 then activated low power mode and struggled to open the airlock, which released the droids, mynocks, a training clicker, and several other items into space. CAM pulled SF-R3 back into the ship and closed the airlock, though all of the ship's items stayed in space.

Batuu

The Society later sent SF-R3 and CAM to the Batuu Wilds on the planet Batuu in the Outer Rim Territories to learn if it was possible to teach porgs new tricks. SF-R3 stored a training clicker in his chest compartment, and he pulled it out when he found a small group of porgs. SF-R3 used the clicker to click and told the porgs to sit. The porgs didn't respond, so he tried again. SF-R3 then pushed a porg down to get it to sit while he was using the training clicker. This caused the porg to be launched a far distance away.

Later, SF-R3 clicked his training clicker and told a group of three porgs to spin. SF-R3 showed the birds how to spin, but they didn't respond. SF-R3 then spun one of the porgs, which made it dizzy, so SF-R3 decided that it would be better to start with the basics.

SF-R3 and the porgs then moved to a cave that they didn't know contained a Batuuan braga bear. SF-R3 used the clicker and told the porgs to wave, and he showed them how to do so. One of the porgs tried to wave, but ended up flying uncontrollably. SF-R3 then used the clicker and pretended to die and fall. He told the porgs to also play dead. The porgs then flew away from an approaching Batuuan braga bear, and SF-R3 soon followed suit.
