The Junk Giant

Official description

The Jedi stop a thief.

The junk dealer

At Hap's Sap Tap, Hap serves Nash Durango a Fizzroot Shake, two Alphaberry Sap-Shakes for Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay, and an ice cream cup for Nubs. Nubs gobbles up his dessert. Brightstar thanks Hap for his drink, and Solay asks Durango about a nearby statue. Durango explains that is the statue of Kaliah Kublop, an explorer who discovered Tenoo and founded Kublop Springs. Solay remarks about Kublop Spring's welcoming environment.

A Chadra-Fan named Marlaa Jinara trips with her lunch. Durango introduces the Jedi Initiates to her friend Jinara. Durango and the Jedi help her retrieve several fruits. Durango explains that Jinara owns a junkyard. Jinara explains that she has to leave because a thief has been stealing things from her junkyard. Solay offers the services of her friends, which Jinara accepts due to their good reputation for helping the locals of Kublop Springs.

Investigating a theft

At the junkyard, Durango tells her Jedi friends that she loves the place because both her moms visit the junkyard regularly to get things. Jinara thinks the junk is beautiful because they can be recycled or turned into artwork. Jinara introduces her repurposed artworks to Durango and the Jedi and describes the junkyard as her home, emphasising that she is upset that the thief is stealing her merchandise, which is hurting her business.

Brightstar promises to catch the thief while Solay asks for a description of the thief's activities. Jinara explains that the thief was only stealing small items but that the gears from her servo-lifter had been stolen today, preventing her from lifting heavy pieces. While Brightstar ponders what to do next, Solay finds a trail of oil, which Brightstar determines belongs to the stolen Serco-lifted parts. Solay proposes following the trail while Jinara wants to stay behind and guard her junkyard.

Trouble with Taborr

Nubs uses his immense strength and Force powers to lift part of the servo-lifter. While Nubs helps Jinara lift objects, the others follow the oil trail. The trail stops in the middle of a nearby street, but Durango's droid RJ-83 hears chatter behind a door. Inside the warehouse, they find Taborr Val Dorn and his associates Pord and EB-3 with the stolen merchandise. Val Dorn and EB-3 are working on something, which they plan to use to impress the other pirates at Yarrum Tower and steal bigger items.

The Jedi younglings and Durango confront Val Dorn's gang for stealing from Marlaa. Brightstar demands the return of the stolen junk merchandise, but Val Dorn reveals that he and his gang have built a Junk Giant from the stolen objects. Val Dorn activates the Junk Giant and boasts about using it to steal bigger objects including the founder's statue.

Val Dorn orders the Junk Giant to attack the Jedi and Durango. The Giant grabs Brightstar with one hand and attempts to crush him with its pincer arm, but Brightstar leaps out of harm's way. The Junk Giant uses a piracy of metal to block the entrance with a rectangular crate. Outside, Val Dorn sends the Giant to steal Kaliah Kublop's statue. Following an unsuccessful attempt to remove the crate, Brightstar and Solay attempt to use their combined Force powers, but the object is too heavy.

While Solay is despondent, Brightstar comes up with an idea to bundle a crane to remove the crate. Working together, the three younglings build a drain which they used to remove the crate.

Conflict resolution

The four resolve to stop Val Dorn and his gang's plot to steal the founder's statue. Val Dorn is jubilant that his plan appears to be working. However, Brightstar and his friends arrive and tell Val Doen to return the statue of Kaliah Kublop.

Val Dorn sends the Junk Giant to attack Brightstar, Solay, and Durango. Solay attempts to find the power switch but is grabbed by the large bipedal droid. Brightstar manages to distract the droid and trick it into releasing Solay. While pursuing Brightstar, the droid smashes a fountain. However, it loses its left hand in the process. With his plan in tatters and facing an angry crowd of locals and Jedi, Val Dorn orders his gang to retreat. Regarding the Junk Giant as useless, Val Dorn orders the droid to stay behind and attack the Jedi.

Before the droid can attack them with its remaining fist, Brightstar speaks to the Junk Giant and convinces him not to strike. While Val Dorn was willing to throw him away, Brightstar tells him that every piece of junk is valuable and can become artwork, crane or a giant droid that does not have to fight or steal. Though the Junk Giant is broken, Brightstar reassure him that he is still special. Solay and Durango offer their support.

A gentle giant

The Junk Giant restores the statue of Kaliah Kublop. Meanwhile Marlaa supervises Nubs as he sorts and moves objects in her junk yard. The Jedi and Durango return with the Junk Giant, with Solay explaining that Val adorn turned her junk into a giant droid. Jinara inspects the droid and describes the Junk Giant as beautiful. Jinara offers to repair the droid's left arm and gives the Junk Giant a place and job at her junkyard. The Junk Giant murmurs in agreement. Jinara decides to name the droid JG-1. The droid murmurs in agreement, and Jinara touches the droid gently.

Jinara thanks the Jedi younglings for their help as JG-1 helps Nubs move a heavy crate. Brightstar surmises that junk is not broken but is waiting to become something new and amazing. Jinara, Brightstar, and Solay watch as the Junk Giant allows Nubs and Durango to sit on its shoulders.
