Plot summary

The comic opens with the fall of the Protector, showing various scenes from the Battle of Jedha. As the statue falls, Oliviah Zeveron pulls Jedi Master Leebon out of its path. They both escape unscathed, but receive a message from Matthea Cathley, still back in the city. Cathley tells Leebon and Zeveron that the Path of the Open Hand's healing house has collapsed, and that Vildar Mac is trapped in the rubble. Cathley asks for assistance because of still being affected by what had happened earlier in the square. Vildar Mac is trying his hardest to hold up all the rubble and keep the other civilians safe. He vows that nobody will die, but a member of the Path blames him and the Jedi for the fighting that led to the almshouse collapsing. Mac asks another civilian to try and make their way to the surface. Tey Sirrek fights a raider at the Temple of the Kyber who demands the location of the Rod of Daybreak. Sirrek is saved by Oklane Viss, who asks Sirrek what he is doing out of his cell. The raider uses a blinding explosion to get away, allowing the Guardians of the Whills to regroup. Sirrek is handcuffed again by another Guardian, but SK-0T arrives bearing Cathley's message. Sirrek convinces the Guardians to help Cathley and the Jedi. Mac continues to struggle to hold up the rubble. The civilians finally start to believe in him, encouraging him and saying that he can do more to save them. Mac remembers his childhood and when a Jedi, Master Larti, saved him and believed in him. The rubble begins to shift and Mac believes he has failed, but instead is surprised by Sirrek's arrival with the other Guardians. They help move the rubble, but Mac still cannot hold it. Cathley encourages the Guardians to try and help, even though they aren't Jedi. Mac, Cathley, Sirrek, and the other Guardians all commune with the Force and are able to move the rubble, freeing the people trapped below. They all head for the Enlightenment, and though Kradon Minst tries to keep them out due to the city being a war zone, Mac calls on Minst's statement that the Enlightenment is a sanctuary, exactly what is needed for all the people fleeing the almshouse.
