The Burning

The Burning was a process in which a blaster muzzle was pressed against an individual's skin, peeling the skin from the flesh beneath. By 10 BBY, Captain Carabba of the Blazing Claw had scarred the pirate Patchwork Fiddich through the Burning by pressing a blaster against Fiddich's cheek. Fiddich still bore the scar when he later mutinied against Carabba's successor, Gunda Mabin, who later wrote about it in the book that would become known as the Smuggler's Guide.

The Burning was mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, which was written by Daniel Wallace. The process originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 1979 novel Han Solo at Stars' End, which was written by Brian Daley.
