The Battle of Endor was a severe blow to the Galactic Empire, and not only because of the destruction of the second Death Star and the supposed death of Emperor Palpatine. The entire Imperial structure was left without a clear leader, and the liberation movement led by the Rebel Alliance gained even more strength in the face of obvious signs of Imperial weakness. But there was still a lot to do. Throughout the galaxy, remnants of the Empire continued to fight, and its most important cadres fled to the Unknown Regions, to rearm and return years later as the First Order. Even the proclamation of the New Republic was not free from controversy and danger, as even Leia Organa herself experienced in the first person.
