Terbus was a male porg from the ancient planet Ahch-To who hid away aboard the Millennium Falcon. Terbus watched Resistance personnel take on naval forces of the First Order when the First Order launched an attack on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. Terbus then aided Chewbacca in freeing Wookiee captives, forming a bond with the Resistance fighter.
During a Q&A with Collider, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was asked by Star Wars fan Nathan Jesse what the name of the Porg Stowaway was. He gave the question back to Nathan, who came up with the name "Terbus." Nathan and his brother Samuel, along with their father David, host the podcast Tatooine Sons: A Pop Culture Podcast. Nathan and Samuel had come up with the name Terbus by switching the syllables of their dog Buster's name.
Following Nathan's suggestion, Johnson responded with "Pablo [Hidalgo], if you're listening to this livestream, that porg's name is now Terbus." The name suggested by Johnson was later used for a porg in the 2019 comic book Star Wars Adventures (2017) 27, although it has not yet been confirmed to be the same porg seen in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.
